OREANDA-NEWS Serbian director Emir Kusturica considers Russian composers to be the best in the world. The works they created are “one of the strongest arguments” of Russian culture, the director is convinced.

He told about this during the festival of classical music Kustendorf classic, which takes place in the Serbian ethno-village of Drvengrad. Answering journalists' questions, Kusturica noted that no other country can boast of such composers as there are in Russia.

“This is a compliment, but I think this is an objective compliment, and not my subjective view on Russia and Europe,” said Kusturica. He added that his favorite Russian composer is Dmitri Shostakovich. In addition, Kusturica loves the music of Sergei Rakhmaninov.

The festival of Russian classical music Kustendorf classic is held in the Serbian ethno-village of Drvengrad for the seventh time. This year the forum is held for the first time under a new name, previously it was called “Big”. The competition program includes more than 50 young musicians from Serbia, the Republika Srpska (from Bosnia and Herzegovina), Russia, Belarus, Germany and Montenegro.
