OREANDA-NEWS  On 01 November was announced, that by the beginning of the cold season a new heating main passing through the river of Angara was installed in the regional centre of the Baikal Region. It will raise reliability of heat supply of more than a third of the city population, informed today an ITAR-TASS correspondent in Irkutskenergo administration.

The highway starts from New-Irkutsk Thermal Power Station and has an extent of nine km. There is a 300 m long trailing passage through Angara in its bottleneck - at the lower pound of Irkutsk Hydroelectric Power Station. The project costs RUR 1.3bn, including RUR 400m for the passage construction.

"It is an important fact that the heating main allowed to close down some electric boiler houses, and, thus, save around 300 MW that used to be consumed at heating of the specified part of the city," informed the company’s representatives.

The company is performing another project that will allow to unify the power supply systems of two cities, Irkutsk and Angarsk. It is construction of a 30 km main between the Northern industrial hub of the regional centre and Thermal Power Station No.10, that was constructed to satisfy the needs of Angarsk Electrolytic Chemical Combine. With change to centrifugal technology of uranium enrichment, the need of the latter in great heat has disappeared, and it may be used now for supply of new manufactures and inhabited microdistricts of Irkutsk.
