OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2010. Energy saving is the basic element of modernization of the Belarusian economy, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky said at the opening of the Belarusian Industrial Forum, reported the Official website government.by.

The Prime Minister reminded that the Government has approved the program to reduce the consumption of energy resources by 30% within five years. For the past nine years Belarus has doubled GDP and reduced the consumption of fuel and power resources. “It is one of the most important performances that characterize the development of the Belarusian economy,” the Prime Minister underscored.

In his words, local fuels should account for 25% of Belarus’ energy balance in 2010. Today this figure makes up 21%. In two years the share of local fuels will reach 30%.

According to the Prime Minister, nearly ten small CHP plants working on the local fuels have been constructed in Belarus (in Vileika, Bobruisk, Osipovichi and others). The most important project for Belarus so far has been implemented at the Pruzhany small CHP plant that was built in 2009. “In perspective such plants will be erected in every region of the country. We have set forth quite an ambitious goal – to construct such plants in small and medium-sized towns of the country. We will implement this goal within the next three or four years,” the head of Government stressed and added it would help increase the country’s energy security, the efficiency of the use of energy resources.
