OREANDA-NEWS. March 01, 2012. The coin collection of Finance and Credit Bank was supplemented with some interesting novelties – the Archistratigus Michael, that is the first bullion coin of Ukraine, is already available to customers of the Bank.

According to Galina Kalashnikova, Head of Operational Department of Finance and Credit Bank: "Bullion coins are intended for a long-term investment of surplus funds of the public. Besides that, these coins will be of certain interest to Ukrainian coin collectors as they were struck in 2011 in a limited mintage: gold 20-hryvnia coin – 1500 pieces, gold 5-hryvnia coin – 3000 pieces and silver 1-hryvnia coin - 10,000 pieces".

The reverse design of the coin depicts the Archistratigus Michael—the archangel, one of the most esteemed Biblical figures who defeated the evil, patronised warriors fighting for the righteous things—encircled by the lines from Taras Shevchenko's poem "Haidamaky": "Holy soles and the Archistratigus Michael's power stand for us". The obverse side of the coin pictures the emblem of the National Bank of Ukraine – allegoric figures of griffins separated by a grivna that is a measurement unit of weight and money in Kievan Rus. This emblem symbolises the safety and augmentation of the gold stock reserve of the state.
