OREANDA-NEWS. September 06, 2012. In the end of August the Customer support department of OJSC "Perm Engine Company" restored PS-90 engine by replacement of the high pressure turbine (HPT) directly at "Silk Way Airlines" airline base.

The HPT replacement was executed by the group of 6 high-qualified specialists using certified equipment and tooling, applied during series repair of the engines.

"Perm Engine Company" started engine restoration by execution of complicated repair in operating organizations in 2011.  At the moment operational replacement of HPT module has been performed at 7 PS-90A-76 engines of transport aircrafts Il-76TD-90 in two airlines: "Volga-Dnieper" and "Silk Way Airlines", which had become pioneers in running such kind of repair at their production sites. All in all it is planned to restore 12 engines by replacement of HPT module.

Today PS-90A engine modular replacement sites in Ulyanovsk, Baku (Azerbaijan), Havana (Cuba) have been prepared for certification.  In October, 2012 another one site will be set in one more Russian city - Vladivostok, at the base of "Vladivostok-Avia" airline.   An agreement has been confirmed to build such sites in Moscow (to serve the engines of "Red Wings" airline aircrafts) and in Agra-city (India).

A technology of replacement repair of the engines in-operation, without sending them to manufacturing plant, created by OJSC "Perm Engine Company" together with OJSC "Aviadvigatel" (a developer of PS-90A engines), allows  proceeding operation of the aircrafts in the shortest terms. Time needed for operational restoration of one engine by replacement of HPT module is about 15-20 days, although performing the same repair by returning the engine to the manufacturer will take at least 2 or 3 months.

Alexey Mikhalev, "Perm Engine Company" CEO:

- In 2011, in the hot summer season "Perm Engine Company" was extremely criticized - the airlines had no bypass engines to replace those removed for routine maintenance. So, some aircrafts were caused to stay idle without the power units. In this year we didn't permit this situation. Today our enterprise runs fairly big volume of repair, and engine inventory has been created for the airlines. A practice of restoring engines directly in operating organization also proved to be efficient.   In this respect we cooperate most effectively with "Volga-Dnieper" and "Silk Way" airlines. If we manage to establish modular repair in the rest of the airlines, the operational efficiency of PS-90A engines will grow radically.

Sergey Morzhenkov, the Deputy Production director, LLC "Airline Volga-Dnieper":

- We appreciate the initiative of "Perm Engine Company" to perform operational repair of the engines by replacement of the separate modules. Modular replacement lets spare time and money, which is good both for operator and manufacturer. I think this is one of the most perspective directions of our further cooperation with Perm engine builders.
