OREANDA-NEWS. February 25, 2013. He stated this at a parliamentary hearing on the situation in the banking system of Moldova and at BEM the majority holding in which belongs to the state. According to him, at the current stage the state has to help Banca de Economii, which has been weakened and poorly capitalized due to the issue of bad and questionable loans. But then, BEM has to be sold to a strategic investor of worldwide reputation for the state to be able to have its investments back.

Banca de Economii is solvent and meeting its obligations to its clients although, it needs the support of the state and the increase in the equity capital by 700 million leis. This will help to solve problems resulted from bad and doubtful loans and create the reserve to respond to the loss contingency. According to Dorin Dragutanu, one of the main problems of Banca de Economii is corporate governance and poor management.

He stood for assurance of the completely independent and political unloaded management at BEM and said that overseas managers may be invited for this purpose. The current support to the bank can not exclude the like problems in future, the NBM Governor said. According to him, doing business at Banca de Economii has to be reorganized and the bank must be managed as a private bank for it to come back to profits, which, as he said, may amount to 100 -130 million leis a year.
