OREANDA-NEWS. Huawei demonstrated its COTS server FusionEngine solution at the 2015 Intel Developer Forum. FusionEngine is designed for next generation carrier-grade COTS (Commercial Off-the-shelf) servers, which uses Huawei’s advanced IT and CT technology to secure extremely high bandwidth, low latency and high reliability.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to match the rapidly growing number of available MBB services using traditional closed telecom networks with Chimney Deployment. Although NFV technology is capable of decoupling the software from the hardware and deploying telecom services in COTS servers, the performance and reliability of common IT COTS servers cannot meet the requirements of telecom services. FusionEngine cooperates with multiple vendors by applying an open design concept providing telecom operators with the best COTS server.

FusionEngine uses Huawei’s advanced cloud-based technology to combine with Intel’s x86 virtualization, DPDK (Data Plane Develop Kit) and SR-IOV (Single I/O Virtualization) achieving the industry’s fastest packet forwarding rate under NFV. FusionEngine achieves a 99.999% carrier-grade reliability by combining with Intel’s x86 module fault detection technology enabling it to provide multi-level reliability testing and self-healing.

As a carrier-grade COTS server, FusionEngine provides the best hardware platform for Huawei’s CloudEdge solution facilitating the construction of the next generation MBB network architecture. Up to now, FusionEngine has had pre-commercial deployments in Europe, China as well as other countries for mobile Internet access, location services and mobile games acceleration. More specifically, this solution allowed a Chinese operator to reduce their mobile game latency from 350ms down to 50ms.
