OREANDA-NEWS. The European Commission recognizes the vaccination certificates issued in San Marino, now they will be valid throughout the European Union and in the Schengen countries, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced on the official Sputnik V vaccine Twitter account.

"The European Commission recognizes the vaccination certificates issued in San Marino. San Marino vaccination certificates are now valid throughout the European Union and in the Schengen countries," the statement said.

European Commissioner Didier Reinders, whose words are quoted in the message, noted that he is glad to see more and more countries connecting to the EU's digital COVID certification system. Also, according to him, the European Commission is taking active measures to recognize certificates issued by other countries.

The Republic of San Marino approved the use of the Sputnik V vaccine in February 2021. Earlier, RDIF said that the use of Sputnik V allowed San Marino to become the first country in Europe to defeat the coronavirus.

In San Marino, Sputnik V was vaccinated against coronavirus (in 90% of cases). Citizens vaccinated with this particular vaccine will be able to travel only to those EU countries where it (unlike the EU) is recognized - that is, to Hungary, Slovakia, and also to Portuguese Madeira.

Holders of the "anti-coronavirus EU passport" can become vaccinated with EU-certified vaccines, or those who have recovered and retained antibodies, or who have passed a test with a negative result in the last 48 hours. A number of anti-coronavirus restrictions do not apply to the holders of this document in the European Union.
