OREANDA-NEWS. More than 6,600 reports of possible side effects of COVID-19 vaccines have been reported in Switzerland, the country's Federal Public Health Office said on Friday.

As of September 1, 2021, 6,603 reports of suspected adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccines have been reviewed in Switzerland. Most reports mention more than one reaction. Most of the reports - 4442 - were for non-serious side effects, while 2161 were for serious reactions.

Most of the reports came from health professionals. The average age of the subjects was 55.5 years, of which 18.1% were aged 75 and older. In cases considered to be severe, the median age was 59.2 years, and in the reported deaths associated with vaccination, the median age was 80.3 years. In 137 of these severe cases, the vaccinated person died after a certain period of time. However, the authorities do not have concrete evidence that the vaccine was the cause of death.

A total of 4,298 reports were for Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine, and 2,191 were for Pfizer / BioNTech's Comirnaty vaccine. In 114 cases, it was not indicated which vaccine was used.

As noted, the data on adverse reactions do not affect the opinion of the authorities on the benefits of vaccines against COVID-19, which are used in Switzerland.
