OREANDA-NEWS. The administration of the new US president Joe Biden will not give up trying to disrupt the construction of a new gas pipeline «Nord Stream-2». Future US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken promised to use «any convincing tool» to do this. The politician made this statement in Congress on Tuesday, January 19.

According to Blinken, these measures will make an impression on all countries, including Germany. Biden fully agrees with congressmen that the «Nord Stream-2» is a bad thing, said the future head of the US foreign Ministry.

The United States opposes «Nord Stream-2», saying that the new pipeline will make Europe even more dependent on Russian gas. At the same time, the US wants to sell it's own gas to Europe. On January 19, the administration of the outgoing US President Donald Trump imposed sanctions against the Russian company KVT-RUS, the operator of the Fortune pipe-laying vessel.

The pipeline operator has postponed the work indefinitely, although all permits have been obtained. Due to the elections in Germany, «Gazprom» is closing it's window of opportunity, Andrey Gurkov said in an interview with DW TV channel.
