DirecTV continues 4K sports coverage with US Open
The championship started June 13 and runs through June 19. For the remainder of the Open, DirecTV customers can head to channel 106 to see holes three, 13 and 17 broadcast in 4K UHD resolution. The channel is only available to DirecTV's Ultimate or Premiere package subscribers and requires the latest Genie HD DVR and a compatible 4K TV to watch.
Subscribers can watch the broadcast on channel 705 in HD, too, and watch four channels of coverage through the service's Mix channel for viewing them all simultaneously. The leaderboard, player scorecards, bios, groupings and tee times can be accessed through the service as well.
4K resolution promises improved picture quality and sharpness, although in our experience it's often difficult to tell from regular high-def. Current sources of 4K TV shows and movies include streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Video, as well as a new disc format called Ultra-High Definition Blu-ray.
