OREANDA-NEWS  Since July 1, restrictions on government purchases of a number of foreign wines come into force in Russia.

According to the relevant government decree, the restrictions relate to the procurement for state and municipal needs of imported wine, as well as sparkling, fruit and liqueur wine. The list also includes wines of protected geographical indication and protected appellation of origin.

Restrictions will not affect imported wines sold by trade organizations and catering enterprises, RIA Novosti reports.

Innovation will support Russian winemakers, experts say. In particular, the restrictions will enhance the image of domestic winemaking, as the signal of support for the industry comes from the state.

Leonid Popovich, president of the Union of winegrowers and winemakers, is confident that government agencies responsible for procurement will understand that there are enough good wines in Russia that you can use to present yourself at events. In addition, according to Popovich, innovation is a signal to the Russian business of the state’s readiness to assist in the sale of domestic products.
