OREANDA-NEWS Japan will try to prevent Russia from abandoning Japanese seafood by providing transparent information about their safety, Minister of Forestry, Agriculture and Fisheries of Japan Ichiro Miyashita said at a press conference.

"We will again inform the Russian side about the safety (of fish) and will work to ensure that there are no restrictions on the import (of fish from Japan to Russia)," Kyodo news agency quoted him as saying.

He called on Russia to "base itself on scientific data," and also said that there was a request from the Russian side regarding ways to measure radiation in fishing products sent for export.
