OREANDA-NEWS. Smartphone sales in American market declined by 25 % in the second quarter of the current year. This became known from the study of the analytical company Counterpoint Research.

The coronavirus pandemic has seriously impacted smartphone sales not only in the United States, but all over the world. However, it was the United States that suffered most. The reason for such a high drop was the closure of about 80 % of sales channels for smartphones. April was the most disastrous: sales fell by half. In May the situation started to improve, and in June the figures were even higher than a year earlier.

As for smartphone manufacturers, the South Korean company Samsung suffered the least: sales of its devices reduced by 10 %. Sales of Apple fell by 23 %. It is noted that these two producers control over 90 % of the US smartphone market. The worst results were registered with Chinese companies OnePlus, Motorola (owned by Lenovo), and ZTE, sales of which dropped by 60 %, 62 % and 68 %, respectively.
