OREANDA-NEWS. Over the past eight years, caviar domestic production has fallen considerably.  Prices fell almost two and a half times due to the development of its production and the growth of imports of products from China.

The main reason for the decline in prices was the development of aquaculture in the country, experts say.  As the head of the All-Russian Association of Fishery Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters (VARPE), German Zverev, explained to the press, last year fish farmers received 43.9 tons of sturgeon caviar.  Some of them, 8 percent, or 7.8 tons, were sent abroad.  The rest was sold at an average of 42 thousand rubles per kilogram.

However, according to the supervisory authorities, last year the scale of activity of poachers, supplying eggs of extremely low quality, has increased dramatically.  In some supplies, experts have found E. coli with excessive levels of preservatives and fluids.
