OREANDA-NEWS. Employees of the public medical institutions from the mandatory health insurance system will receive higher salaries, based on the individual professional performance. The cabinet of ministers approved a regulation to conceptually amend the mechanism of paying wages to healthcare employees.

Under the new provisions, doctors' and health workers’ salaries will go up by 20%, though the focus is on increasing the incomes of young specialists with up to 10 years work experience, whose remuneration will rise by 50% and even 100%. The measure aims to motivate doctors to remain in the local health system, and exclude inequities young specialists are subjected to.

Thus, starting from 1 July, the wage income of the employees of the medical institutions from the mandatory health insurance system will be composed both of the office salary and salary guarantees, as well as the remuneration for the registered activity indices. Monthly assessment of the fulfillment of performance indicators will be evaluated by an Assessment Board of the institution where the employee works.  

The wage supplement provided for professional performances achieved in work is aimed at stimulating the improvement of the quality of healthcare services and is based on the quality of the services provided, contribution and professionalism of the employee. 

Preliminary expenses necessary to increase the salary for the second half of 2016 are estimated at 295 million lei. Financial resources are provided for in the law of health insurances fund for this year.

Statistics shows that, in the recent years, the number of employees of medical institutions has been continuously decreasing. Thus, while in 2003, around 11 thousand doctors were employed, in 2015, their number dropped to almost 10 thousand. At the same time, the number of nurses has decreased by about 3,000 persons on this period.
