OREANDA-NEWS. During an event today, Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced federal support for The Wilds at Salmonier River Inc. to upgrade the hotel portion of its business.

The Government of Canada provided a repayable contribution of $150,000 to assist the company with a number of enhacements, which enabled the company to upgrade the front entrance of the facility, replace pumps for the artesian well supplying the hotel and upgrade Wi-Fi and internet coverage. The improvements to the hotel are intended to assist the business with responding to growing tourism market demand. They will also help the business appeal to broader market segments, such as tourists visiting nearby attractions like Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve, Mistaken Point and Salmonier Nature Park.

The Wilds at Salmonier River Inc., which has been in operation since 1997, has continued to make improvements since opening and currently has an overall Canada Select rating of 3.5 stars. The resort includes 39 hotel rooms, as well as 15 villas and six cottages with 4 star ratings.
