OREANDA-NEWS. The main topic during the conversation of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom Michael Fallon, who is on a visit to Bulgaria, was tackling the migration flow to Europe.

Prime Minister Borissov emphasized that the security of the external borders is a question of particular importance, for which each country is responsible. He underlined the serious approach Bulgaria has towards its duties for border guarding and the good cooperation with the country’s neighbors for the sake of limiting the illegal migration to the core of Europe. According to him, the financial support in the amount of 160 billion euro that we receive from Brussels, as well as the launch of the European border police namely from Bulgaria present a sign of appreciation for the efforts that our country makes in order to guarantee the security of European and Bulgarian citizens.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the unfolding of the migration processes shows the need for readmission agreements between the European countries and the countries of origin. He noted that in Bulgaria a change in the profile of arriving migrants is observed, whereby the flow from Afghanistan increases. “The United Kingdom like Bulgaria has an active role in the stabilization process in Afghanistan and the consolidation of the Afghan security forces. It is of primary importance to reach an agreement on readmission of illegal migrants. I have asked the ministers of foreign affairs, of interior and of defence to prioritize this goal,” said Prime Minister Borissov.
