OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President and Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, who is in Bulgaria as head of a delegation studying the potential opportunities for investments in the country.

During the conversation Prince Sultan Al Saud noted that in recent years Saudi Arabia has prioritized tourism as an economic sector with big potential for expansion and partnership with other countries. He stated his high appreciation for the nature and cultural and historical heritage of Bulgaria and defined those as an excellent foundation for cooperation and realization of common projects.

Our country is a well-establish tourist destination. The number of visits by foreign tourist to our country has increased in the past 10 years with close to 40% and goes over 7 million tourists, which almost equals the population of Bulgaria, pointed out Prime Minister Borissov. He emphasized that Bulgaria would welcome new opportunities for the development of tourism and investments so as to realize to the utmost its big potential in this strategic sector. According to him, although currently the seaside and winter tourism constitute the main share in the sector, the various types of specialized tourism have a great potential, such as SPA, cultural, historical. A strong competitive advantage is the possibility to combine some of them together.

The Prime Minister also underscored that our country has a strategic location, good macroeconomic indicators, low taxes and skilled personnel. “Bulgaria is economically stable, keeps a strict fiscal and financial discipline and this makes it an attractive destination for investments,” underlined Borissov. The Prime Minister expressed his expectation that the recently signed Memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the tourist sector between Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia will provide solid ground for stimulating the bilateral contacts between the business and the governments.
