OREANDA-NEWS. The United States must fulfill its international obligations as a host and create conditions for the normal work of representatives of all countries at UN events. So, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Gen Shuang commented at a briefing on Tuesday that the U.S. authorities refused to issue a visa to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who was about to leave for a meeting of the UN Security Council scheduled for Thursday.

"The issuance of visas to representatives of all countries and the creation of conditions for their participation in UN events is an international obligation of the United States as a host state. We urge the United States to fulfill its obligations as a host and create conditions for the work of official representatives of other states at UN meetings", the diplomat said.

Earlier on Tuesday, an American news agency, citing an American official, reported that the United States on Monday refused to issue a visa to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. According to him, this decision followed an increase in tension between the two countries after Kassem Suleimani, the commander of the special forces of Al-Quds of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed as a result of a US strike in the Baghdad airport area.
