OREANDA-NEWS. The container ship Songa Iridium, flying the flag of Liberia, crashed into the embankment in the Rumeli Hisara district of the city of Istanbul (Turkey) while passing through the Bosphorus Strait connecting the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. This was reported on December 27 by NTV channel.

According to the Reuters agency, citing the governor’s office, no one was injured in the incident. Officials added that the ship’s crew reported about problems with the engine before it ran aground.

Coast guard employees are working at the site of an accident. Specialists are clarifying the reasons of the crash.

The Bosphorus Strait is closed to shipping.

Songa Iridium was sailing from Odessa (Ukraine) to Istanbul.
