OREANDA-NEWS The T-55 medium tank, which was developed in the USSR at the height of the Cold War, had impressive firepower and security. The phenomenon of the Soviet machine was described in the publication of the American edition of The National Interest (NI).

It is noted that after the Great Patriotic War, the USSR focused on the development of armored forces. In 1945, the T-54 was introduced, which was significantly different from the tanks of the last war.

The T-54 received a 100 mm cannon with BR-412 armor-piercing shells, which was significantly superior to the gun of the T-34-85 tanks. The new tank also had better protection — the thickness of the frontal armor of the hull was 100 millimeters, and the turret was up to 200.

Later, on the basis of the T-54, the T-55 was developed, which became the world's first production tank equipped with an automatic anti-atomic protection system. The T-55 also received a 580 horsepower engine.
