OREANDA-NEWS. The number of applications for unemployment benefits filed in the United States from March 15 to April 18 exceeded 26 million. This is evidenced by data published by the Department of Labor.

According to statistics, between April 12 and 18, about 4.4 million Americans applied for such benefits. A week earlier, the number of applications was 5.2 million. In the period from March 29 to April 4, this figure was 6.6 million. From March 22 to 28, the number reached a record 6.86 million, and from March 15 to March 21, the applications were filed by 3.3 million US citizens.

On March 27, President Donald Trump signed a law on economic stimulus measures in the amount of more than 2 trillion dollars. They are aimed at overcoming the consequences of the spread of coronavirus infection and provide for the payment of unemployment benefits, assistance to hospitals, business and entire industries.
