OREANDA-NEWSThere are good prospects for cooperation between Russia and Thailand in the military and military-technical fields. This was announced on Tuesday by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov following talks with Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramatvinai.

"They noted good prospects for strengthening ties in the military and military-technical fields", he said. "They welcomed the active cooperation in the field of security between the apparatus of the Security Councils of our countries, through law enforcement agencies in such urgent areas as the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime". As Lavrov pointed out, the parties agreed to conduct an inventory of numerous bilateral draft agreements to speed up their signing.

The minister also touched upon the Russia-ASEAN cooperation agenda (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), drawing attention to attempts by some countries to blur the architecture of cooperation and security in the Asia-Pacific region. “We don’t take such attempts”, he said. “The next ministerial meeting between Russia and the Ten will take place tomorrow, at which new decisions will be taken aimed at deepening our strategic partnership, and we are grateful to Thailand for its contribution to the achievement of these agreements”.

Recall, Lavrov is in Bangkok with a two-day visit. On Wednesday, he will take part in the Russia-ASEAN ministerial meeting. The Russian minister said that the navy of Thailand had recently visited the Russian port of Vladivostok for the first time. Earlier it became aware of new steps in the development of bilateral relations between Russia and China. The Russian Federation and the PRC are organizing a 100 billion yuan regional development fund, which will bring cooperation between Moscow and Beijing to a new level. According to the minister, these steps increase the pace of international cooperation in the Asian region.
