OREANDA-NEWS Indonesian authorities issued an order on Friday to evacuate the population due to the threat of tsunamis from coastal areas in the west of Java after an earthquake that occurred at sea. This was reported by Reuters, citing a statement by the Indonesian emergency department. 

The population of the coastal areas of the province of Banten is ordered to evacuate to elevated areas inaccessible to the tsunami as soon as possible. 

An earthquake occurred off the coast of Sumatra in western Indonesia. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, its magnitude was 6.9, according to the US Geological Survey it was 6.8.
