OREANDA-NEWS. The Polish authorities in late January plan to sign an agreement to acquire 32 fifth-generation F-35 fighter-bombers from the United States. This was announced on Thursday on Polish radio by the Minister of National Defense of Poland Mariusz Blaszczak.

"We have essentially completed negotiations. Only minor procedural issues remain. I am convinced that in January, this month, we will sign an agreement with the United States to purchase 32 F-35 aircraft, the most modern aircraft in the world", he said . Answering an additional question about the exact dates, the minister indicated that it was about the “end of January”.

At the end of September, the US Congress agreed to sell Poland 32 F-35 fighters. The cost of the contract is estimated at $ 6.5 billion. In Warsaw, however, they stated that this is the starting price, and the Polish side intends to achieve its reduction during the negotiations. Today, the Polish Air Force is armed with 27 MiG-29s, as well as 48 F-16s and 18 Su-22s.
