OREANDA-NEWSThe idea of empowering the European Union in comparison with the countries entering the community during the pandemic of the disease caused by the new coronavirus has shown its failure. This was stated in an interview published on Monday by the Daily Polish Newspaper by Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Chaputovic.

“During the crisis, the states entering the community take responsibility for the safety of their citizens”, he said. “Sovereignty, that is, the highest authority, is at the level of the state and not of European institutions. Poland, like other member countries, has introduced emergency measures, such as closing borders, quarantine, termination of institutions, schools or banning of public gatherings", he said.

"This showed that the idea of reformatting the EU with giving it the highest power, for example in the field of security, in the collision with the crisis turned out to be absolutely unrealistic", the Polish minister said. In Poland, the number of recorded cases of coronavirus infection exceeded 13 thousand, 678 people died. Since mid-March, the country has had an epidemic regime, and many institutions and organizations have been closed.
