OREANDA-NEWSThe Central African Republic continues to consider the establishment of a Russian military base in the country. This was confirmed in an interview with the Russian media by the president of the country, Fosten-Arkange Tuadera. “We continue to work with the national Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on this issue in order to explore the possibilities”, he said.

Tuadera also noted that the CAR is interested in the supply of Russian weapons and asks Moscow to send new batches of weapons. “Our forces need weapons. And during my meetings at the Russia-Africa summit, I asked the Russian Federation about the possibility of providing the CAR with additional assistance to help our military carry out their tasks properly”, he added. Tuadera recalled that Moscow had already transferred to the Central African Republic the first batch of small arms of 5 thousand units.

In January, the Minister of Defense of the Central African Republic, Marie Noel Koyara, spoke about the possible appearance of a Russian military base in the country. She noted that ultimately such a decision should be made by the presidents of the two states. Then she said that local residents already perceive the educational center in the city of Berengo as a military base, although it's not.
