OREANDA-NEWS. Queen of the United Kingdom Elizabeth II has revoked the awarding the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire to American film producer Harvey Weinstein, accused of sexual harassment. This was reported by the government edition London Gazette.

In 2004, Weinstein received the order in New York from the hands of British Consul General, Thomas Harris. After the scandal of 2017, several British politicians wrote an open letter to the Prime Minister of Great Britain demanding that Weinstein be stripped of the order.

A scandal involving a Hollywood producer erupted in 2017. Weinstein was accused of molesting more than 100 women, including famous actresses such as Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Judd.

In February 2020, a jury found Weinstein guilty of sexual crimes. In March, 67-year-old defendant was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
