OREANDA-NEWSRussia and China presented on Monday a draft UN Security Council resolution that calls for easing sanctions against North Korea to improve the humanitarian situation in the country. A copy of the document is available to the Russian media.

The second paragraph of the document states that "the Security Council must adapt the sanctions applied to the DPRK in view of the fact that the country is fulfilling its obligations under the relevant UN Security Council resolutions". Operative paragraph 6 of the resolution also proposes "to remove as soon as possible the restrictive measures" introduced by the UN Security Council, which directly affect the life of the DPRK civilian population".

The document says "welcome the continuation of the dialogue between the United States and the DPRK at all levels". The document proposed by Moscow and Beijing calls for "further practical steps to reduce military tensions on the Korean Peninsula and to prevent any military confrontation by all possible measures, including the conclusion of agreements between the military departments, the adoption of a formal declaration or a peace treaty to end the Korean War".
