OREANDA-NEWSRussia and Ethiopia are interested in expanding military-technical cooperation, including increasing supplies of military products. This was announced on Tuesday by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a joint press conference following talks with his Ethiopian counterpart.

“We discussed the tasks of agreeing on additional regulatory documents that will allow us to more effectively promote our cooperation in the field of military supplies and in other areas”, the Russian Foreign Minister said. The Minister emphasized that military-technical and military cooperation between Russia and Ethiopia has a rich history. In this regard, Lavrov drew attention to the fact that "the Minister of National Defense of Ethiopia took part in the negotiations as part of the delegation".

Russia and Ethiopia agreed to resume the work of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation on a regular basis. “Over the period of our partnership, we have gained solid experience in cooperation, which is mutually beneficial and meets the interests of both countries in various fields, and today we paid special attention to further deepening cooperation in the trade and economic sphere”, Lavrov noted. “The volume of trade in absolute numbers is not very impressive but the growth rate is impressive, and we agreed to support this trend".

The Russian Foreign Minister said that the negotiators "agreed to stimulate the work of this commission, to aim it at implementing joint projects, investment projects in various fields, including energy, including hydrocarbon, hydropower, and nuclear energy". “We noted an interest in working in Ethiopia for companies such as Rosatom, Inter RAO, GPB Global Resources, Russian Railways, KamAZ, UAZ”, he added.
