OREANDA-NEWS Russia entered the top 10 lovers of imported alcohol, the rating was headed by the United States.

Last year, the United States topped the list of the world's largest importers of alcohol, while Russia rose to ninth place, RIA Novosti found out, based on data from national statistical services.

The United States reduced alcohol import costs by 8% compared to the previous year, spending approximately $26 billion, which is 29% of global alcohol imports. The main categories of imports were spirits, beer and wine, each of which accounted for about $7 billion.

The UK retains second place with a 2% increase in imports to $7.2 billion, mainly due to wine. Germany, which ranks third, imports decreased by 3% to $5.3 billion. China increased imports of foreign alcohol by 3% to $4.7 billion, France, which rose to the fifth position, increased purchases by 5% to $3.9 billion.

Russia took the ninth place and increased alcohol imports by 19% to $2.2 billion. The main imported alcoholic beverage was wine ($1.1 billion), followed by spirits ($730 million), beer ($301 million), vermouths ($69 million) and low-alcohol beverages ($24 million). The main suppliers of alcohol to Russia are the EU countries and Georgia.

The top 10 countries that like imported alcohol also include the Netherlands, Canada, Japan and Spain.
