OREANDA-NEWSThe OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak and the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov, discussed issues of mutual interest on the sidelines of the informal meeting of the organization’s foreign ministers. This was reported to the Russian media on Tuesday by the spokesman for the Slovak foreign ministry, Boris Gandel.

“The meeting of the ministers Lavrov and Laichak took place the night before during the informal dinner of the heads of the delegations participating in the OSCE summit”, he said. “The ministers of the ministers sat side by side and still spoke after the end of the dinner”.

Lavrov and Laichak discussed, according to the representative of the Slovak Foreign Ministry, topical issues related to the activities of the OSCE. One of them is the settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine. Slovakia considers as its most important task maximum assistance in achieving stabilization of the situation in this country, with which it has a common border in the east.

Gandel noted that another meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Russian Federation and Slovakia isn't planned. Earlier on Tuesday, an informal meeting of OSCE foreign ministers began in the High Tatras. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks with OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greming on the margins of the Munich Security Conference. It's noted that diplomats discussed the situation in the east of Ukraine. The foreign minister also spoke with Greming about European security. They discussed the general state of affairs in the Organization, the prospects for improving its effectiveness as a platform for interstate dialogue on topical issues of European security.
