OREANDA-NEWS. The Ukrainian authorities have not given up their intention to join NATO, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna said in an interview with El Pais. According to her, the indecision of the North Atlantic Alliance on the issue of accepting Kyiv into the organization led to the current situation in the region.

NATO reports on Ukraine have been a bit disappointing and of course we were expecting more,” she said.

Earlier, the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, said that the Verkhovna Rada would not change the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the country's accession to NATO.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in turn, noted that the organization supports Ukraine's desire to join the Alliance, but this requires a consensus of all member countries.

In early March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had lost interest in the idea of Ukraine joining NATO. According to him, this happened after the Ukrainian authorities realized that NATO was not ready to accept the country, because the Alliance was afraid of contradictions and confrontation with Russia.
