OREANDA-NEWS. The head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Opposing Sides in Syria, Major General Yury Borenkov, reported that the Pantsir air defense missile systems repelled two attacks of unmanned aerial vehicles on the Russian air base Khmeimim.

According to the officer, the first attack was carried out from the north-east direction, the second from the north-west. The first was repelled by rocket fire at a distance of about 2 kilometers from the base. During the second attack, a target approaching Khmeimim from the Mediterranean Sea was hit at a distance of 6 kilometers. Borenkov specified that drones were detected on the evening of February 9 after dark. There are no casualties on the Russian side. Now the air base is functioning as planned. The initiator of the attack was not named.
