OREANDA-NEWS. The television channel Open TV reported on April 29 that a helicopter owned by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization fell into the Ionian Sea near the island of Cephalonia (Greece).

Six people were on board, their fate is still unknown. The wreckage of the aircraft was found 85 kilometers from the Greek island, it is the zone of responsibility of Italy.

It is known that the helicopter rose into the air from the Canadian frigate, included in the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2.

Greek state TV channel ERT informed that the Italian frigate and other NATO ships went to the disaster area to take part in the search and rescue operation. Details of the incident and the cause of the crash are being clarified.
