OREANDA-NEWS The Spanish authorities sent Latvia a battery of air defense missiles. This is stated in the message of the Cabinet of Ministers of the kingdom, reports TASS.

Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez, at a meeting with his Latvian counterpart Krisjanis Karins, declared his commitment to ensuring security on the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance.

According to him, Spain has reinforced with another 100 military personnel a contingent of more than 500 Spanish soldiers. Sanchez added that they are operating within the framework of NATO's "Expanded Forward Presence".

Previously, the Prime Minister of Estonia Kaya Kallas said that NATO should expand its presence on the eastern flank of the alliance. In her opinion, the need for such a solution is caused by the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis.

It was also reported that Latvian President Egils Levits stated that it was necessary to strengthen the presence of NATO troops in the Baltic States against the background of the continuation of the Russian special military operation on Ukraine.
