OREANDA-NEWS. The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov reported that in 2 years more than a hundred terrorists’ drones were destroyed by air defense systems or neutralized by electronic warfare during attempts to attack the Russian air base Khmeimim in Syria.

According to him, the terrorists are trying to break through the air defense system of the air base. “As for the numbers, 118 unmanned aerial vehicles of terrorist groups were destroyed in 2 years,” he said. Most drones were launched from the Idlib security zone.

The anti-aircraft missile defense systems Shell-C1, Tor-M2 suppress terrorists’ attempts to launch rockets, Konashenkov noted.

The officer said that since the beginning of the year, 27 rockets have been destroyed by 31 missile systems. “It means that the effectiveness of the defeat is close to one: one goal for one missile,” he stressed.

The last attack on the Russian air base Khmeimim was carried out on September 3. The flight range of one of them is 150 kilometers, and the flight height is 4 thousand meters. “It is very serious,” Konashenkov said.

Konashenkov linked the temporary peace with the liberation of Khan Shaykhun town and Al Lataminah in the Idlib de-escalation zone. The workshops for the assembly of drones and platforms for launching were found there and shown to foreign journalists.

On September 13, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the war in Syria came to an end and the country is gradually returning to peaceful life.
