The Ministry of Health Approved the First Anti-Coronavirus Drug in Russia

OREANDA-NEWS. The Ministry approved a generic version of favipiravir named «Avifavir» for treatment of the emergent COVID-19.
It is officially reported that «Avifavir» is planned to be tested on 330 patients, 180 trials have already been conducted. «"Avifavir" is not only the first antiviral drug registered against coronavirus in Russia, but also perhaps the most promising drug against COVID-19 in the world», said Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
On May 24, the main urologist of the Health Ministry, academician Dmitry Pushkar, said that the first anti-coronavirus drug will appear on the Russian market in June. According to the doctor, this drug will take no more than a week to treat coronavirus infection.
In April, it was reported that in 17 Russian hospitals will begin clinical trials of the Japanese drug «Favipiravir» (also known as «Avigan») against new strains of COVID-19. This drug has not been sold on the market due to negative effects on pregnant women.
As it was reported early, the country's official number of coronavirus infections cases increased up to 405,843, one hundred and thirty-eight people have died over the past 24 hours.
