OREANDA-NEWS It became known the name of the director, who will remove the first two episodes of the series "The Lord of the Rings" from the studio Amazon. They will be the Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona.

Details of the project have not yet disclosed. It is known that the talk in the first series will be about the events told in the books of the British writer J. R. R. R. Tolkien, which occurred long before the story described in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which was filmed in 2001–2003 by New Zealand director Peter Jackson .

“Tolkien created one of the most extraordinary and inspirational stories of all time, and, being a great fan all my life, it’s an honor and a joy to join this amazing team,” said Bayona.

According to him, he cannot wait to “dip the audience into the world of Middle-earth”, to open for them the “wonders of the Second Age”.

Juan Antonio Bayona began as a director of commercials and music videos. In 1999 he shot the short film “My Holidays”, in 2002 - “Sponge Man”. In 2006, Bayona shot his first full-length film “Shelter”, produced by his friend Guillermo del Toro. This work was chosen as the Spanish application for the Oscar in 2007 in the category Best Film in a foreign language. In 2010, Bayona began making the film “Impossible” about an Indian Ocean earthquake starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, which was released in 2012 and brought Bayone the Goya award for best direction.
