OREANDA-NEWS. Izhorskiye Zavody, a part of OMZ (Uralmash-Izhora Group) (RTS: OMZZ; LSE: OMZD; OTC: UHMVY), reports that it has signed contracts with Afrikantov Special Machine Building Design Bureau, Nizhny Novgorod, and with Baltyisky Zavod OJSC for the supply of equipment for two KLT-40S nuclear reactors. The low-power reactors are to be used for the construction of the world’s first floating nuclear heating plant, planned for Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk region.

According to the press service of OMZ, the value of the contracts exceeds RUR500 million. According to the contract terms, in 2007-2008, Izhorskiye Zavody will ship approximately 360 tons of equipment for the plant.

The heating plant is to be moored in the White Sea, near the port of Severodvinsk.

Izhorskiye Zavody has had long and successful experience in the production of low-power nuclear reactors for Russian submarines.

To date energy equipment produced by Izhorskiye Zavody operates in 47 power units of Russian and CIS nuclear power plants, as well as at nuclear plants in Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Finland. In recent years, Izhorskiye Zavody has produced such equipment as modernized reactor facilities for Busher Nuclear Power Plant, Iran, Tyan Van Nuclear Power Plant, China, and Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, India, on the basis of intergovernmental agreements.
