OREANDA-NEWS. Testing and industrial use of an upsetting press for pipes of the oil range (pump/compressor and drilling pipes) has been completed at Sinarsky Pipe Plant, a subsidiary of TMK.

According to the press service of TMK, the new upsetting press was developed by the German engineering company “SMS Meer” and completed according to an order from the plant. Stable production indicators were achieved during the testing and industrial use. A total of 1500 metric tons of pipes with upset ends were produced in October 2006, and more than 2000 metric tons of pipes in November 2006. The new equipment makes it possible to produce pipes of the oil range with high quality upset ends that satisfy the requirements of the international standards API 5D and API 5CT.

The installation of the upsetting press at Sinarsky Pipe Plant is stipulated in TMK’s investment program for the modernization of production. The equipment will make it possible to increase the output of pump and compressor pipes with upset ends and drilling pipes by 36,000 metric tons per year. Moreover, the quality of the pipe upsetting will be increased, while the time required for mechanical processing of the upset ends will be reduced.
