OREANDA-NEWS. The D49 environmental certification tests have been complete. Thus the engine has successfully gone through the most important stage on its way of getting the new European EURO IIIA environmental standard compliance certificate from the authorized body called Kraftfahrzeug-Bundesamt (Germany).

According to the press service of Transmashholding, TÜV NORD (Germany), the technical service company of the accreditation process has confirmed the fact that the D49 diesels comply with the European directive 97/68/EC and the annex 2004/26/EС concerning the locomotive diesels environmental requirements to be effective from 2009. The preliminary research and experimental work has revealed a number of engineering solutions to be used to satisfy the European Union environmental demands to be effective in 2012.

The JSC Kolomensky Zavod chief designer for engineering Valery Rijov said that the 12D49М-01 diesel was the basic test derivative. The 12D49М-01 is an upgraded version of the 12D49М. The latter is in successful service with German diesel locomotives now.

Besides, the new diesel construction comprises a number of engineering solutions that have been integrated into D49 diesels within the last years. The 12D49М-01 diesel key advantages include compliance with environmental standards, better performance and efficiency including lesser fuel consumption.

The experts believe that the fact that the first Russian diesel has been certificated as compliant with European standards is a break-through in the Russian engineering making the branch world-competitive and letting the Kolomensky Zavod export its motors to the EU countries.
