OREANDA-NEWS. Kolomensky Zavod has received the certificate of compliance for the first Russian freight diesel locomotive designated 2TE70 from the Certification register for the federal railway transport (RSFJT).

According to the press service of Transmashholding, the 2TE70 diesel locomotive proved compliant with all security demands during the certification tests. The joint acceptance committee testing the 2TE70 this September recommended that the pilot set of 15 two-section locomotives should be manufactured. Ten locomotives of the set will be constructed in 2007.

The two-section 6,000 kW 2TE70 freight diesel locomotive with AC/DC electrical drive will replace the 2TE116 and 2TE10 worn out locomotives. The new locomotives will enable 20 – 30 per cent increase in the number of trains operational with diesel traction lines and 10-20 km/h increase in the freight train speed. The diesel locomotive is powered by the highly effective and environment-friendly 2A-9DG-02 diesel-generator. The new locomotive features less fuel and oil consumption and a microprocessor control and diagnostics system. The locomotive crew conditions are also improved.

When operational the 2TE70 designed to lead 6,000 metric ton trains will enhance the railway lines carrying capacity through enabling trains handling by diesel and electric locomotives without any reorganization. And that is the key advantage of the new 2ТE70.

The locomotive has been sent to Ulan-Ude (the Republic of Buryatia) to be used to lead heavy trains carrying mineral resources under adverse weather conditions including temperature range from 500 C below zero in winter to 400 C above zero in summer.
