OREANDA-NEWS. OJSC “Power Machines” and OJSC “OGK-3” have executed contracts for upgrading the 300 MW turbogenerator of the fifth power block and for upgrading the 1200 MW turbine of the ninth power block of Kostromskaya TPP (the branch of OJSC “OGK-3”) which is one of the largest thermal power stations located in the central part of Russia.

According to the press service of “Power Machines”, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract OJSC “Power Machines” will upgrade on a turnkey basis the generator island, in particular, the rotor, stator (with full substitution of the active steel and winding) and the turbogenerator TBB-320 excitation system.

The work is to be completed within 153 calendar days. The equipment supplies for upgrading purposes will commence in July and the starting-up of the upgraded power block is scheduled for December this year.

OJSC “Power Machines” already performed a similar turbogenerator upgrading project for the fourth power block of the station in 2006. It was the first experience of such a large scale modernization not only for Kostromskaya TP but for the whole industry.

Additionally, the contract for upgrading one of the two low pressure cylinders of the world unique 1200 MW turbine (location No. 9) has been entered into. The work under the contract is to be completed by November 2009. Also, the conclusion of the contract for manufacturing and supply of the new medium pressure rotor for the turbine is expected in the near future.

OJSC “OGK-3” was established on the basis of six large federal power stations supplying power to the federal power grid. The company includes Kostromskaya TPP, Pechorskaya HPP, Cherepetskaya TPP, Kharanorskaya TPP, Gusinoozerskaya TPP and Yuzhnouralskaya TPP. The installed capacity of the six thermal power stations of OJSC “OGK-3” is 8497 MW, they represent more than 5% of the power generating facilities of RAO “UES of Russia.” The stocks of the company are traded in the Russian Trading System (RTS) and in the Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange (MICEX).
