OREANDA-NEWS The Usoliekhimprom enterprise in the Irkutsk region needs recultivation, otherwise a global ecological catastrophe can occur, commensurate in scale with the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Such a statement in an interview with Izvestia made the head of Rosprirodnadzor Svetlana Radionova.

The plant produced chlorine and other chemicals. According to the publication's interlocutor, the owners "pumped out" everything possible from it and left. In particular, the enterprise requires demercurization due to heavy mercury contamination.

Radionova said that the containers of "Usoliekhimprom" contain containers with chemically hazardous substances, some of which are under pressure, "and nobody knows what is there."
