OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2007. The head of the Administration of Krasnokamensk municipal district of Chita region German Kolov has sent a letter of gratitude to the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko.

On behalf of the residents of Krasnokamensk and the village of Oktiabrskoye, Kolov expresses gratitude for Rosatom’s support.

"741 families of the village of Oktiabrskoye and 68,000 residents of Krasnokamensk and Krasnokamensk district have seen that the key priority of your corporation is not only the strategic tasks set by the Government but also the problems of ordinary people."

"As the head of the district and a person who has tried to solve this problem for many years, I would like to thank you, on behalf of the residents of Krasnokamensk and Oktiabrskoye, for your decision to resettle the residents of the village to a new ecologically safe place," says Kolov.

To remind, during his visit to Priargun Mining Chemical Combine (Krasnokamensk, Chita region) on June 1 2007, Kiriyenko agreed with the governor of Chita region Ravil Geniatulin to solve the ecological and social problems of the village of Oktiabrskoye and specified the key measures for resettling 1,819 residents of the village.

During a meeting in Moscow on Dec 21 2007 Kiriyenko and Geniatulin signed an agreement for joint financing of the project to resettle the residents of Oktiabrskoye.

The village of Oktiabrskoye was built in 1961–1964 for geologists prospecting uranium deposits in the area. Later, it turned out that the village was situated near a tectonic zone and one of the deposits emitted radon. The radiation background in the area was much higher than allowed. That’s why the Government decided to resettle the villagers (741 families) to Kransnokamensk.

The parties agreed to allocate 840mln RUR in 2007–2010 (600mln RUR – Rosatom and 240mln RUR – the Administration of Chita region). The money will be spent on the construction of three new apartment houses and on the completion of the construction of two unfinished ones.

The money will also be used for demolition of the houses in Oktiabrskoye and recultivation of the land.
