OREANDA-NEWS. On 14 April 2008 was announced, that Oil Transporting JSC “Transneft” had not receive any proposal from the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources Usage (Rosprirodnadzor) to modify the route of the “East Siberian – Pacific Ocean” second phase oil pipeline (ESPO-2).

V. Kirillov, department head, said that some mass-medias have made public comments of his deputy Oleg Mitvol: “This is his opinion I’m not going to comment. “Transneft” has not received any oral or written appeal”. According to Rosprirodnadzor head the ESPO-2 proximity to Khabarovsks’s water intake does not violate any ecological norm. He mentioned that “the more important thing is to what extent the environmental protection measures are taken”. “The trunk pipeline is close to Khabarovsk but yet the Baltic pipeline system goes closely with the cities and water conservation zones”, – Mr. Kirillov said.

The route of the future oil transporting system meets all ecological norms and standards. “Moreover, we have exceeded all applicable standards and limitations in order to consolidate the environmental safety particularly for water intakes and nature reserves. Therefore our position is that all project related issues in respect to the environmental safety do correspond to the legislation in effect”, - reported by Mikhail Barkov, Vice-President for “Transneft”.
