OREANDA-NEWS. June 7, 2008. Consul General of Norway in Murmansk region Rune Aasheim visited Kola Nuclear Power Plant on June 6. He met with the managers of the plant and discussed with them the results of the 15-year Russian-Norwegian cooperation.

In the past years Norway has helped Kola NPP to carry out a lot of projects aimed at enhancing the plant’s operating safety. One of the projects was the delivery of diesel station in the 1990s. Kola NPP enjoys special partnership with the Institute for Energy Technology ((Institutt for energitektikk) under the Halden Reactor Project (Haldenprosjektet).

Aasheim said that the Norwegian government was satisfied with the cooperation, especially, with the technical assistance projects. A total of 44 projects have been carried out so far.

During a press-conference Aasheim said that Norway’s cooperation with Kola NPP would be continued: “The main thing is that our relations have always been open and transparent.”

Rune Aansheim was appointed as Consul General of Norway in Murmansk region four years ago. Since then he has visited different cities and companies of the regions, particularly, Andreev Bay with its Northern Fleet sites for storage of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. This is the first time he has visited Kola NPP.

“I have see lots of new things here. It was an interesting visit. I am really impressed with your control system. I have seen other companies and their safety systems but nuclear power plants use absolutely different methods. This is good because safety of nuclear power plant is really important,” Aansheim said.

He also visited the training center of Kola NPP, its information center and trout farm in Polyarnye Zori.
