OREANDA-NEWS. July 4, 2008. In January-June, 2008, Volga Shipping carried 2.7 million tonnes of cargo, the company informs. Inland transportation amounted to 2 million tonnes of cargo (+2%, or +40,000 tonnes, year-on-year).

According to the company’s press release, Volga Shipping opened navigation in late April. The schedule for operations covers the period till October. This year, early but long spring in Central Russia prevented the company’s vessels from early start. Cargo flows of this navigation are similar to those of the previous navigation: transportation of sulfur from Buzan, metal from Cherepovets, carbamide form Toljatti and berezniki, salt from Akhtubinsk and Kama ports to Upper Volga.    

Volga Shipping (Volga-Fleet OJSC) was established in 1843. The company’s fleet operating during navigation period numbers over 300 vessels including 50 sea-and-river-going vessels, 63 self-propelled river-going vessels, 50 tug boats, 70 non-self-propelled vessels (barges), 50 motor and hydrofoil vessels. Volga-Fleet OJSC and North Western Shipping Company (St. Petersburg) are parts of Volga-Baltic Company.
The authorized capital of Volga Shipping makes RUR 1,001,550 thou divided into 482,106 preferred shares of А-type and 1,520,994 ordinary shares with nominal value of RUR 500 each. RF Rosimushchestvo holds 25.55% of the company’s shares, Havensight Shipping Cyprus Limited – 43.4%.
